Three Months Short Course Training Programme on “Yak Hair Based Fabric Making” Organized

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak in collaboration with financial support under NEH component of ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organized a Three Months Short Course Training Programme on “Yak Hair Based Fabric Making” in Dirang during 25th October, 2024 to 22nd January, 2025.

Dr. D. Medhi, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NRCY cum Convenor of the programme welcomed all the participants and briefed on the economic aspects of yak fibres and detailed about the training.

The Director, ICAR-NRCY in his presidential remarks talked about the scope & prospects of yak fibre and suggested the trainees to take the opportunity and learned every step very skilfully.

 

Dr. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, in his speech, emphasized the scope and prospects of yak hairs with the benefits of designs in textile manufacturing to get its products more remunerative and suggested the trainees to implement their learning in the training and asked to come forward for development of yak fibre-based entrepreneurships for overall development of yak husbandry in the country.

 

During this programme trainees were enlightened the knowledge on the fibre quality of yaks in contrast to the synthetic wools and other natural fibres like sheep wool, jute fibre etc. During the period, the trainees were systematically involved in Hands-on-Practices. The trainees also learned knitting and prepared varieties of products like socks, gloves, sweater, muffler, and caps using synthetic wools.

 

The programme concluded with a valedictory programme coinciding with the 36th Foundation Day of this institute in presence of Hon’ble Former DG-ICAR, Delhi as Chief Guest, Dr. B. C. Deka, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University, Former, ADG Dr. B. S. Prakash and both the Directors of the collaborating institutes of the programme i.e. Dr. Mihir Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NRCY, Dirang All trainees were rewarded with Certificates of Training.

 

A total of twelve trainees from six different places namely Kamrup, Assam and Yewang, Dirang, Jyotinagar, Thembang and Sangti villages of Arunachal Pradesh were benefitted from this training programme.
