MoU with Jute Corporation of India (JCI) for setting up of Common Facility Centre on jute grading 

February 28, 2024, Kolkata:

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology, Kolkata signed a MoU with Jute Corporation of India, Kolkata, today, for jointly setting up laboratories across Departmental Purchase Centre (DPCs) under the aegis of JCI. These Common Facility Centres (CFCs) will house the grading instruments developed by ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata for grading of raw jute that will ensure quality and better price to the jute farmers for their hard-earned crop.

The MoU was signed between Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET and Shri A.K. Jolly, Chairman cum Managing Director, JCI in the august presence of Smt. Dashana Vikram Jardose, Honourable Minister of State for Textiles & Railways, Government of India on the occasion of global mega textile event “Bharat Tex – 2024” being organized by Ministry of Textiles, Government of India at New Delhi during February 26-29, 2024.

Under this MoU, recently developed jute grading instruments developed at ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata will be installed at all the Departmental Purchase Centre (DPCs) located at different jute growing states of India. In fact, one such Common Facility Centre has already been created by ICAR-NINFET at Katwa DPC, Purba Burdwan District, West Bengal which is catering to the needs of jute growers of the locality. JCI is funding the creation of these facilities where as ICAR-NINFET is providing the necessary technical support for establishment and functioning of these Common Facility Centres.
