Kolkata, November 20, 2024:

ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, in collaboration with Nadia Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited, has launched a comprehensive training program on "Handloom Weaving and Design Exploration." This initiative, undertaken under the Schedule Caste Sub-Plan, aims to empower SC trainees by providing them with essential skills in handloom weaving and design. The program, inaugurated by Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director of ICAR-NINFET, emphasizes women empowerment and market linkages. The institute has pledged to provide five handloom units to the top five trainees. Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, Head of the MP Division, highlighted the significance of natural fibers in handloom. The training program, which commenced on November 20, 2024, in Santipur, will conclude on December 19, 2024. A total of 15 SC trainees are participating in this program. Local officials, including Sat. Barnali Burman, Pradhan of Folia-II, expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative.
