Farmers' Training Program on “Instrumental Jute Grading System” under SCSP Scheme

ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata,
in collaboration with the local administration of Haringhata, Nadia, organized
a one-day Farmers’ Awareness Training Program on Instrumental Jute Grading
System under the SCSP Scheme at Haringhata Block on February 20, 2025. The
program was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Block Development
Officer, Haringhata Block; Project Director, DRDC & DMMU, Nadia; WBCS
Executive Officers; Joint Secretary, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Nadia
District; and an expert from BCKV, Nadia.
The primary objective
of this training was to educate jute-growing farmers on the instrumental
grading process, enabling them to receive fair pricing for their produce. A
live demonstration of jute fiber grading was conducted using the Portable
Digital Jute Grading Instrument, developed by ICAR-NINFET. Farmers were
provided with information on the institute’s mandates, farmer-friendly
technologies, ongoing schemes, and training programs. The session also allowed
for direct interaction with farmers to address their questions and concerns. The
training program witnessed active participation from around 150 farmers, making
it a successful initiative toward promoting scientific jute grading techniques
for better economic returns.
