Celebration of National Handloom Day, 2024 

ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, celebrated the 10th National Handloom Day on August 7th, 2024. The event aimed to highlight the importance of the handloom sector and showcase the institute’s research contributions in this sector. The distinguished guests Shri Shashi Bhushan Singh, IRTS, Secretary, National Jute Board, Shri Jintu Das, Director, Directorate of Jute Development; Shri Mahadeb Datta, Joint Director (Technical), National Jute Board attended the occasion. Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, director ICAR-NINFET, highlighted the contribution of the Institute in the field of Handloom development.

The dignitaries delivered insightful lectures on various aspects of the handloom sector in India. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) B.K. Behera from IIT Delhi. His comprehensive presentation explored into the current state of the Indian handloom industry, outlining its strengths and challenges. A product exhibition featuring handloom items from various handloom weaver organizations like Ramkrishna Mission, Sargachi, Murshidabad; Fulia Women and Youths Welfare Society, Shantipur; Nadia Organic farmers Producers Company Limited, Nadia was a key highlight of the event. ICAR-NINFET also showcased the products and technologies developed at the Institute. About 100 youths, staffs, officials from various lined departments from the institute remains committed to supporting the growth and development of the Indian handloom industry through research and innovation.
